So murky; so hidden, yet so potent.

To know myself from within, so powerful, so difficult, so vital.

We are more than what we do.

Journals are powerful tool for exploring this inner world.

We differ in our ability to identify and express our feelings.

Write a letter that we will never send.

The process of writing something down clarifies issues; it keeps us hones; it helps make us real.

Journaling forces us to face ourselves and our unfolding lives.

Give us an ongoing record so that we know where we have come from, 

where we are, and where we are going.

Journals enable us to know our stories.

In knowing our stories, we come to know God in our story.

Communication with God is at the heart of our spiritual life: talking and listening to him.

The prayer of examen:

1.  Reflect on what you have to be thankful for.

2.  Reflect on the ways in which you have met God.

3.  Reflect on the ways you have avoided or failed God.
